About Shannon
TEACHER
Shannon worked as an upper elementary school teacher in Fairfax County, VA. While she taught all subjects, her focus has long been cultivating a love for reading and writing in children. She currently teaches writing at Compass Homeschool Enrichment in Herndon, VA.
RESEARCHER
As a teacher/researcher, Shannon examined her role in the classroom and how she could make the best use of her students’ time. Her favorite project focused on making writers’ workshop effective and exciting.
LEADER
Shannon took on many leadership roles during her time as a teacher. Among these were serving as a board member and conference chair for the Northern Virginia Writing Project, an organization devoted to improving writing instruction. As an NVWP consultant, she offered inservice presentations to teachers.
PARENT
Shannon’s first child was born while she was on a sabbatical from teaching, taken so she could focus full-time on her MA in the Teaching of Writing and Literature. Since then, she has been a homeschooling mom.
Shannon’s homeschool community made her aware of the need for evaluators. Parents of school children reenforced her understanding of the difficulties parents often have getting their children the educations to which they are legally entitled. She is delighted to combine her talents and passions to serve families in Northern Virginia.
